The BEGINNING oF Home Audio...  

In 1956, with the birth of the long play record on vinyl disc, music could be recorded of higher quality, but there were very few companies that made high quality sound systems.

Altec Lansing, was one of these companies.  They made sound systems for Western Electric and the sound was only heard in movie theaters and large installations.  Altec Lansing came out with a consumer version of the sound systems that could be used in the homes.
The Start of Associated Installations
David Johansen

 

At that time Roy Johansen started Custom Music Systems, which later became Associated Installations.  When David Johansen came into the audio business, he took Associated Installations to a higher level of home theater entertainment and security systems and fire alarm systems.
